Jo Shaw
I first found yoga as a teenager. In my early 30’s I decided to deepen my practice, so in 2007 I enrolled on the Vajrasati yoga teacher training (Yoga Alliance Teacher Training Plus 500hrs). I completed my training in 2009 and became a senior teacher in 2018.
In my classes I like to explore building blocks of movement – finding fluidity in the body before coming into asanas (yoga postures). Everyone moves at their own pace, in whatever range of movement that’s available to them. We use props (blocks, bands, bolsters and chairs) so that we can come into postures without losing connection with the breath and in a way that is most beneficial to the body.
There are many physical and mental benefits to a yoga practice. The ultimate purpose of yoga is to find freedom – freedom from the cycles of action and reaction – our emotional/physical habits. We are often on ‘auto-pilot’, driven by habitual patterns of thoughts, breath and behaviour, which are not an expression of our real self. Though our yoga practice we can start to find freedom by tuning into the permanent, unchanging part of our self. When we connect with this, we experience peace and equanimity.

… just to say thank you for our session yesterday. I so look forward to the Friday yoga – it’s an hour away from all the stress of the outside world. Although I can’t do all the postures that I’d like to, your help gives me inspiration.

I adore Jo’s yoga classes, Jo has a very honest & grounded yoga practice and you can really feel a deep connection throughout your own practice in her class leading to moments of integration from beginning to end. Totally recommend her classes.

I started going to Jo’s Monday class last spring as I was suffering with a bad back and Sciatica. I can honestly say yoga has been a revelation to me and I have not had Sciatica since. I walk out of class at the end of a session feeling physically taller, energised and happy. I only wish I had started Yoga years ago. I have enjoyed it so much, along with the increased mobility that I try to go to the Thursday early evening class too. I would absolutely recommend Vajrasati yoga – it has changed my posture and is helping me to be more supple which in turn is helping with my back problems and my general feeling of well being. Thank you Jo.

Thank you for a great year of yoga classes. I might not always feel great when I arrive, but I leave feeling so much better. You put so much thought into each class.

I really love Jo’s gentle nature and vast knowledge of yoga. Her classes really make you take note of your body and what it needs. I always feel a little bit more like me when I leave a class with Jo.
